The Ring of Kerry is one of Ireland’s most iconic scenic routes — a full-day adventure (typically 6–8 hours) circling the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry. Here’s exactly what you can expect from a Ring of Kerry tour, whether you’re doing it solo, on a guided coach, or with a private driver:
A 179 km (111 mile) circular route starting/ending in Killarney, passing through Kenmare, Sneem, Waterville, Cahersiveen, and more.
A perfect mix of mountains, beaches, waterfalls, lakes, villages, and wild Atlantic coastline.
Expect frequent stops at places like:
Ladies View – A panoramic overlook of Killarney’s lakes and mountains.
Moll’s Gap – Winding mountain pass with views of the MacGillycuddy Reeks.
Torc Waterfall – A short walk through mossy woodland to a 20-meter cascade.
Skellig Ring (optional) – A detour with views of the Skellig Islands, made famous by Star Wars.
Sneem Village – Quaint and colorful village, perfect for lunch or coffee.
Waterville – A charming seaside town once loved by Charlie Chaplin.
Cahersiveen – Historic town with nearby ancient stone forts.
A 1-day private Ring of Kerry tour from Dublin is possible but requires very early departure, tight planning, and ideally a private driver-guide or chauffeured tour. This plan maximizes major highlights while minimizing travel fatigue.
Start: 5:00 AM (from Dublin)
Return: ~10:00 PM (to Dublin)
Travel time: ~8 hours round trip
Tour duration on Ring of Kerry: ~6–7 hours
Mode: Private car or van with driver-guide
Depart your hotel with your private driver/guide.
Optional stop for coffee/snacks in Portlaoise or Limerick (~1.5–2 hrs in).
Quick breakfast or coffee break
Stretch legs at Killarney National Park
Stunning mountain views over the Lakes of Killarney
10-minute scenic stop with optional short walk
Quaint, colorful village with river views
Seaside town; great seafood options
Optional photo with Charlie Chaplin statue
Choose between Ballycarbery Castle or Leacanabuaile Stone Fort
Skip if short on time
Pass through or pause briefly
Optional quick dinner en route (Adare or Limerick town)
Consider overnighting in Killarney and doing the Ring of Kerry over 2 days for a more relaxed pace — especially if you want to walk/hike or visit Skellig Ring.
